The War Widows Association is managed on a day to day basis, totally by volunteers. The Association does not have any paid staff or office premises and has long benefited from the tradition of gifts, donations and legacies from members and supporters who have valued the service and friendship we are able to offer. Funds raised will be used to support our current members and improve conditions for this often forgotten group of the Armed Forces Community.
A legacy left to The War Widows Association of Great Britain, can be used to benefit a particular project or cause. This will allow us to continue offering the hand of friendship in our unique situation. Large or small, all gifts will make a fundamental difference to the future well-being of a very special group of people, who deserve to have a tailor-made facility available to them.
Legacies can fall into the following categories:-
Pecuniary Gift – a specific sum of money left in your will.
Residuary Legacy – the sum of money left after your specific requests have been made and the debts, tax and costs by the estate.
An Actual Gift – a specific item such as property or share, that you gift to the War Widows Association of Great Britain.
Tax efficient Giving.
Legacies to UK Charities are exempt from inheritance tax (currently 40%), therefore, may help reduce the amount of tax payable if your estate is over the exempt threshold.
When making your will it is advisable to seek independent legal advise to enable you to make the best choice for your own individual circumstances.
